CHF Awards Over $22,000 to Fund New Health Initiatives

Raleigh, NC - The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation Grants
Committee recently awarded over $22,000 in funding for 3 canine health
research projects. This is the beginning of the 14th grants cycle since the
inception of the Foundation in 1995, and brings the number of grants funded
to more than 400.
All three projects fall into the Foundation's "ACORN" grant category,
smaller grants that are primarily for start-up research. Topics for these
grants include acquired mitral valve disease (heart murmurs) in Whippets,
degenerative myleopathy (a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder) in
German Shepherd Dogs, and ocular melanosis (an intractable, blinding and
painful genetic eye disease) in Cairn Terriers.
